HENNEPIN COUNTY, MN — A 3-year-old child was hospitalized Monday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in southeast Saint Louis Park, according to 5ABC Eyewitness News.

St. Louis Park police responded to the scene at the intersection of Excelsior Boulevard and Natchez Avenue shortly after 11:00 a.m.

The toddler was in a crosswalk when a car running a red light struck him and continued driving.

The victim suffered multiple head wounds and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Authorities say he is expected to recover from his injuries.

Several witnesses had stopped to assist the child and his mother, and were able to identify the suspect vehicle as a white Toyota Camry.

Authorities were later able to identify and locate the suspect driver, a 68-year-old woman. A search warrant obtained on Monday allowed officers to search the Camry and the suspect’s phone to determine whether she was distracted at the time of the crash.

The suspect driver was arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail by Monday afternoon, but was released on Wednesday after posting bail.

An investigation remains in progress.
