Having a preexisting medical condition does not prevent you from bringing a personal injury claim. Under Minnesota law, a negligent party is responsible for the harm they cause—even if the injured person was more vulnerable because of an existing condition. If an accident aggravates or worsens a prior injury or medical issue, the at-fault party can still be liable for the additional harm caused by the accident. The key question is whether the incident made the condition worse or caused new symptoms beyond what existed before. Learn more about preexisting medical conditions and personal injury claims.
